Chevrolet Trax or Trailblazer: Choosing Your Perfect 2025 Compact SUV
Chevrolet is no stranger to producing off-road capable trucks, and the newly announced 2024 Colorado ZR2 Bison is a testament to the automaker's dedication to this segment. Developed as a high-performance off-road racer package for the 2024 Colorado, the Bison trim is an exciting addition to the lineup. Here are three key things you should know about the new offering.
- Building on a Legacy of Off-Road Capability
The Bison trim isn't new to Chevrolet fans. It was previously available on the last-generation Colorado, as well as the full-size Silverado 1500 and heavy-duty Silverado 2500. But the new 2024 Bison takes this legacy further. Chevrolet is positioning the Bison as a Baja-style desert racer capable of flat-out racing. Its purpose-built design and features are centered around high-performance off-roading, including drive modes that feature a Baja setting and launch control.
- Exclusive High-Output Power and Off-Road Features
Under the hood of the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison is a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that comes in three power levels. However, the High-Output version is used exclusively on the ZR2 and Bison, enhancing their performance on demanding terrains. This impressive engine delivers 310 horsepower and best-in-class 430 pound-feet of standard torque. This allows the ZR2 Bison to deliver impressive capability in terms of payload and towing with 5,500 pounds of towing capacity out of the gate.
The new Bison also features a series of off-road-specific enhancements. These include jounce control DSSV dampers from Ontario-based supplier Multimatic, beadlock-capable wheels, fender flares, and boron-steel skid plates. These additions equip the Bison to tackle even the most challenging off-road conditions. The truck also boasts best-in-class 38.2-degree approach angle, a 26-degree departure angle, and 26.9 degrees of breakover, allowing it to navigate steep slopes and uneven surfaces effectively.
The new ZR2 Bison is built in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicle like all Bison models, and it offers multiple exclusive features. These include AEV front and rear bumpers with a winch-capable setup up front, boron steel skidplates, and and power locking front and rear differentials. Owners also will love the impressive and class-leading 12.2 inches of ground clearance.
- Modern Safety Features and Availability
Despite its off-road focus, the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison doesn't compromise on safety. Standard safety features include emergency front braking, lane-keep assist, and automatic high-beam headlamps, providing additional peace of mind for drivers and passengers alike.
The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison is set to hit the market in the early fall. While pricing details will be announced closer to the launch, its array of exclusive off-road features and high-output powertrain position it as a high-value package for off-road enthusiasts.
The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison builds on a legacy of off-road capable trucks, offering an exclusive high-output powertrain, dedicated off-road features, and modern safety systems. This new addition to the Chevrolet lineup is a testament to the brand's commitment to providing a range of vehicles that meet diverse driver needs and preferences.
