2025 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban: Diesel Power Reimagined
For 2024, the GMC Sierra HD is getting a host of improvements including a brand-new interior, advanced luxury and connectivity features, remarkable safety and driver assistance systems, and significantly better performance. Already one of the most capable heavy duty trucks on the market, the 2024 GMC Sierra HD and in particular its class-leading Duramax powertrain give you even more performance and power.
The 2024 GMC Sierra HD turbodiesel Duramax engine has seen substantial improvements compared to the previous models, improving power, torque, and towing capabilities, and enabling a more versatile driving experience.
1. More power and torque: The new engine offers a maximum of 975 lb-ft of torque and 470 horsepower. This indicates a significant increase in both power and torque across the entire speed range, delivering stronger performance whether accelerating from a stop or cruising at highway speeds.
2. Improved low-end torque: There's a 25% increase in low-end torque over the previous model. Low-end torque is important because it determines how quickly the vehicle can accelerate from a stop. This makes the truck more responsive during city driving and capable in off-road situations where quick acceleration can be crucial. More importantly, this added torque means towing heavy loads in the Sierra HD is easier than ever with a monster amount of power available to get the load behind you going with minimal effort.
3. Enhanced exhaust brake performance: The enhancements to the Duramax engine also include improved exhaust brake performance. This leads to better control when towing heavy loads, reducing the reliance on the braking system and thereby reducing wear and tear. The result is a safer, more controlled driving experience when pulling heavy trailers or loads.
4. New turbocharger: The Duramax engine features an all-new turbocharger which helps boost engine power and efficiency. The inclusion of a more powerful turbo vane actuator and uprated valve springs in this turbocharger plays a significant role in these improvements. The powerful turbo vane actuator can change the flow of exhaust gas to the turbocharger more effectively, optimizing the balance between efficiency and power. The uprated valve springs can handle the increased power and stress, ensuring durability and reliability under high-performance conditions.
5. Allison® 10-speed automatic transmission: Finally, the inclusion of an Allison® 10-speed automatic transmission aids in delivering the engine's power and torque more effectively to the wheels. The increased number of gears allows the engine to operate in its optimal power band more frequently, improving fuel efficiency and performance. Furthermore, smoother shifting will enhance driving comfort.
So what does this all mean?
It means the 2024 Sierra HD is more capable than ever. It can now tow up to 22,070 pounds in the 2024 Sierra 2500HD, and up to 36,000 pounds in the 3500HD. Moreover, with features like the ProGrade Trailering system and up to 14 available camera views paired with driver assistance advancements like Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailering functionality, the Sierra HD is the perfect heavy duty truck for the toughest jobs.
These advancements represent a significant step forward in GMC's continued pursuit of delivering high-performance and reliable heavy-duty trucks. Whether for work, towing, or simply daily driving, the 2024 GMC Sierra HD with its enhanced Duramax engine aims to offer an improved driving experience.
